1. Who We Are

Me & My Old Man creates personal audio-biographies to help families connect more deeply through storytelling. Our website is here to share our work, our philosophy, and make it easy for people to learn more or get in touch

2. Use of This Website

You may browse, download, or share content from this site for personal, non-commercial use. All text, images, and branding remain the property of Me & My Old Man unless otherwise credited. Please don’t reproduce or republish our content without permission.

3. Booking Our Services

When you book a project or make a payment, you’ll receive a Welcome Pack and Proposal that outline the scope of work. These documents, along with any invoice Terms & Conditions, form part of our agreement with you. Please read them carefully before proceeding.

4. Payments & Cancellations

Payments are typically made 100% upfront.

If you cancel more than 7 days before the first scheduled interview, you’ll receive a full refund.  

Cancellations made within 7 days may be subject to a 25% cancellation fee to cover preparation and scheduling time.

Once interviews have begun, refunds are generally not available, as time and production work will already have been committed. However, in cases of serious illness, bereavement, or other exceptional circumstances, we’ll always consider a partial refund or alternative options—such as rescheduling or credit—on a case-by-case basis.

5. Ownership, Storage & Security of Recordings (updated)

5.1 Booking & preparation – As soon as you approve a proposal and secure a recording date, we create a dedicated, password-protected “vault” inside our Google Drive workspace using Cryptomator’s client-side AES-256 encryption. The Welcome Pack, primer questions and scheduling links reach you in the usual way; the encryption happens quietly in the background.

5.2 Recording sessions – During each interview the raw audio is written straight to that encrypted vault, so files are protected before they ever leave the studio laptop. You simply enjoy the conversation; nothing extra is required from your side.

5.3 Draft review – When it’s time to listen back, we export an un-encrypted copy of the working edit to a regular Google Drive folder. You click ▶︎, stream or download with no additional log-in or software. We keep the encrypted working copy so any tweaks you request can be made quickly.

5.4 Final delivery – After you’ve signed-off the story and any remaining payment is received, the polished audio is delivered in an easy-to-share format. The raw recordings stay encrypted for up to 3 months in case future edits are needed. After that we will either archive them offline (still encrypted) or permanently delete them—your choice.

5.5 Access to raw material – If you would like a copy of the unedited files, let us know within the 3-month window and we will transfer them in an encrypted, password-protected ZIP at no extra cost. Otherwise we steward the masters in line with Oral History Society guidance for private family projects. (Oral History Society)

5.6 Rights – The interviewee always owns their words; we own the physical recording. By signing the short Recording Agreement included in your Welcome Pack you grant us permission to edit, and you receive a perpetual licence to enjoy and share the finished story privately within your family.

5.7 Promotional use – Any future sharing of anonymised excerpts is covered by your consent choices in Section 6; nothing is ever published without the level of permission you select.

6. Promotional Use & Consent

We may request to use short, anonymised excerpts and/or your feedback to communicate the power of this work with others (e.g., on our website or social media). You can choose your level of comfort:

  • Yes, you’re free to use anonymised content

  • Yes, but please check with me first

  • No, I’d prefer nothing be shared

You can update your consent at any time—just email us.

7. Confidentiality & Privacy

We treat all interviews and communications with care and discretion. No recordings, transcripts, or stories will be shared publicly without your consent.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we store and protect your data in accordance with GDPR.

8. Liability

We take great care in our work, but we’re not responsible for any emotional impact from listening to your story, nor for technical issues beyond our control once files have been delivered.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be handled in the UK.
